I'm not defending the decision TimeBandit it was flat out wrong. I'm just asking that people don't heap blame on DS. It wasn't his decision.
And I totally understand people's anger and upset.
i just tried to go to the site and there is a goodbye message.
i was a member there since 2010. i was really surprised.
i had just started posting there again after being away for a while.

It really was predominantly the need to move on from all things JW and the feeling that if the site was still up he wouldn't be able to move on. And yes, a few members engaged in behaviour that was very wearing for the whole team. I think that was the straw that broke the camel's back.
Rifter had obviously been dwelling on this for a while even though he only gave the rest of the admin/mods a few days notice. And yes I appreciate that's more than the rest of you got. I did not think it was my place to go against his request and announce the forum was closing and given that everyone else was in the dark it felt inappropriate to me to start a personal goodbye thread so I kept quiet.
My sincere apologies for my part in that.

I am sorry people have been so hurt by this 😞
hey simon, .
the recent closure of jwr made me realize that this site may not be eternal as well.
a great deal of people attach a lot of importance to xjw communities and yours is the best.
Simon has always consulted when considering closing or handing the site on in the past.
message from designer stubble to the former jwr members.
first of all i am glad to see that many of you have found your way to this great forum, facilitated by simon.
i am sure that after the dust of the jwr shutdown has settled, you will find this to be a good new home.. i would like to apologize for the sudden closure of jwr.
DS I also regret not being more forceful but it doesn't detract from what the site was. I hope when people's anger and upset fades that legacy will be remembered.

It wasn't DS's site or his decision to make, please don't unfairly criticise him. He spent years helping run the forum and did a very good job. At least he has come here to explain and passed the request to temporarily reopen on to the owner.
hi everybody, i'm starrynight from jwr.
that's it... .
Welcome, glad you joined us 😀
hey y'all.
i just wanted to officially make my debut on https://www.jehovahs-witness.com and introduce myself.
i'm an old jwrer, and it looks like i'll be dropping in on here now for cult updates and friendly conversation.. a little about myself:.
Now imagine how all the others feel being kicked out of their safe haven that was JWR
Which is why I said it. Don't think for one minute that I don't get that and didn't argue the point.
However being part of the moderator team I also had first hand experience of the workload generated by a small minority who caused disruption on the forum. I can understand why Rifter came to the decision he did about the way to close the forum even if I didn't agree with it.

I had been on this forum for a few months when Simon announced it was closing. I was isolated, vulnerable and terrified. Moxie started JWR and it was a real haven for me. Not least because there was a members only section which felt secure because people weren't immediately granted entry. It was a safe place and I was very grateful for it.

To my knowledge there were no threats from the WT. Take off the tin foil hats there's no conspiracy here just a guy choosing to close his website. Let's see what response DS gets to the request to temporarily open up again.
